Our Purpose
Our purpose is to glorify God by following the Scripture alone as the
final authority in faith and practice. By the grace of God, we seek to
live faithful lives as disciples of Jesus Christ before a lost and dying
world.
We seek to do so in the following three ways:
Worship:
We strive to honor God through a God-centered and reverent worship. We
believe that God desires all men to worship Him in "spirit and
truth", and that He has told us how that is done in His Word. We
desire our worship to be interesting and meaningful, but we make no
effort to entertain. The following elements will be present in our
worship:
- The singing of hymns which direct our thoughts toward the
greatness of God and lift our hearts in praise to Him.
- The regular reading of holy scripture.
- The preaching of the Word of God. We believe in the centrality of
preaching in God's worship. We believe that while all scripture
ought to be preached, our emphasis should be upon the center of
God's revelation to man found in the Person and work of Jesus
Christ.
- Prayer to God for His mercy and grace upon our church and other
churches around the world.
Evangelism:
We purpose to reach out to our community and bring to men and women the
good news of the free forgiveness of sin through the life, death, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Life without God is empty, without meaning and without hope. The only
true and lasting solution to our moral problem is found in God's
salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ alone has the grace and
power to transform our sinful lives and to prepare us for the world to
come.
Edification:
God desires all of His people to grow in the grace and knowledge of
Jesus Christ. This growth comes through instruction in the scriptures,
prayer, and fellowship with God's people in the church. We believe that
church life should be central in the life of every believer. Christian
growth should be seen in a life pleasing to God and in selfless service,
one to another, and to the world in which we live.
We desire to grow, not only in our understanding of the scripture,
but also in our devotion to and conformity to the Lord Jesus Christ.
