Search the Institutes

Firstly, to use this feature, you must have a Java enabled browser. This will mean downloading runtime Java from Sun (at the link above), or installing the Microsoft Virtual Machine for Internet Explorer (you may have been prompted to do this when this page opened). If instead of search boxes below, you see Plugin icons, then you do not have Java installed. You may be able to install the necessary Java files (while connected to the Internet) by clicking on the plugin icons.

Because this search occurs in you browser, all files are downloaded to your computer and then searched. This process is very slow, particularly if you are using this search over the internet. If you have downloaded this version of the Institutes to the hard disk of your computer, it will be much faster.

Because of the inherent slowness in this search, I have broken up the search into the individual books of the Institues.

Enter the words you'd like to search for in the search box, separating them with spaces or commas. To search for a phrase, place the phrase in between double quotes (for example, "Word of God").

Unfortunately, this search engine only finds the first occurence of the word/phrase searched for in each individual chapter (HTML file).
