There are many Freeware versions of the King James Bible. This is yet another. The King James Bible for Viewer (KJB4V) was written some time ago. I publish it here in the hope that it may be useful to some. One of the main reasons I have posted the KJB4V is because I find its Search facility is fast, simple and powerful. KJB4V uses the Microsoft Multimedia Viewer 2 as its basis. KJB4V was designed for Microsoft Windows 3.1, however it will install and run under under Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98, NT 4.0, ME, 2000 and XP.
The text of the King James Bible used in this program is, to the best of my knowledge, in the public domain and breaches no copyright laws.
A Great Freeware Bible Program with an extensive range of different versions, Commentaries and Lexicons etc is produced by the CrossWire Bible Society and is called The SWORD Project. I use it along with KJB4V. Give it a try!
With KJB4V you reach your desired chapter in the Bible in just three "clicks" of the mouse. The Opening screen presents the books of the bibles in categories or the book of the bible can also be reached using a drop down menu.
Click on the desire book of the Bible hyperlinks to the chapter list. Click on the desired chapter and you are there!
The most useful feature of KJB4V is its searching ability. To search the Scripture click on the Search button; the search dialog box appears. Click on the Hints button to see the different methods of searching.
Operators can also use used in order to enhance your searching.
KJB4V has a companion program The Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary for Viewer (MHCC4V). Click here to obtain a copy of this also. KJB4V has a button MHCC on the button bar. If MHCC4V has been down loaded and installed, clicking the MHCC button in KJB4V will open MHCC4V. If it is not installed Viewer 2 will open and an error message saying the file cannot be found is displayed.
KJB4V is LARGE. The total download is approximately 7.8MB and will require approximately 20MB of hard disk space to install. I have broken up the download into seven parts for easier down loading.
Download each of the seven parts of KJB4V below. You will have to click the right mouse button and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" to download the files.
There are two methods you can use for installation; from your hard disk or from floppy disks.
STEP 1: The downloaded files are compressed (or packed) in the "zip" format. All the files need to be extracted using an "unzip" program. A free one available on the internet is The Aladdin Expander which is available from Aladdin
Systems. Using the "unzip" program extract each of the "zip" files into the same directory/folder. Prefreably a different one to which they have been down loaded.
STEP 2: Using the Windows Explorer, locate the directory/folder with into which the files have been extracted. Run the setup.exe program by "double clicking" on it. Follow the instructions and the installation should go smoothly. The dowloaded files and the extracted files can then be deleted, or the extracted files can be written of a CD.
STEP 1: Using a program like The Aladdin Expander extract the contents of the kjb01.zip file onto the first of seven floppy disks. Label it KJB4Viewer Disk 1.
STEP 2: Extract the contents of file kjb02.zip to a second floppy disk; labeling it KJB4Viewer Disk 2. Extract the contents of the file kjb03.zip to a third floppy disk ; labeling it KJB4Viewer Disk 3. Continue in this sequence until all the files are copied to floppy disks.
STEP 3: Insert KJB4Viewer Disk 1 into your floppy disk drive. Locate the floppy drive with the Windows Explorer (or File Manager). Run the setup.exe program by "double clicking" on it. Follow the instructions and the installation should go smoothly.
STEP 4: Pass the disks onto a friend!
To download the files below click the right mouse button and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As"".
