The Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary for Viewer

There are many Freeware versions of the Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary. This is yet another. The Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary for Viewer (MHCC4V) was written some time ago. I publish it here in the hope that it may be useful to some. One of the main reasons I have posted the MHCC4V is because I find its Search facility is fast, simple and powerful. MHCC4V uses the Microsoft Multimedia Viewer 2 as its basis. MHCC4V was designed for Microsoft Windows 3.1, however it will install and run under under Windows 3.1, Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, ME, 2000 and XP.

The text of the the Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary used in this program is, to the best of my knowledge, in the public domain and breaches no copyright laws.

A Great Freeware Bible Program that has Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary, various versions of the Bible and Lexicons etc is produced by the CrossWire Bible Society and is called The SWORD Project.

How does the program work?

Searching

One of the most useful features of MHCC4V is its searching ability. To search the MHCC click on the Search button and the search dialog box is displayed. Click on the Hints button to discover the different ways you can search.

"Operators" can also use used in order to enhance your searching.

MHCC4V has a companion program The King James Bible for Viewer (KJB4V). To find out more and pbtain a copy click here.

How do I obtain a copy?

MHCC4V is BIG. The total download is approximately 8.0MB and will require approximately 20MB of hard disk space to install. I have broken up the download into seven parts for easier down loading.

Download each of the seven parts of MHCC4V below. You will have to click the right mouse button and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" to download the files.

There are two methods you can use for installation; from your hard disk or from floppy disks.

1. Installation from your Hard disk

STEP 1: The files are compressed or packed file. The files needs to be "extracted" using an "unzip" program. A free program available on the internet is The Aladdin Expander which is available from Aladdin Systems. Using the "unzip" program extract the all the files into the same directory/folder on your hard disk, preferably a different one to which the seven compressed files were download.
STEP 2: Using the Windows Explorer (or File Manager), locate the directory/folder into which the files were extracted and run the setup.exe program by "double clicking" on it. Follow the instructions and the installation should go smoothly. The dowloaded files and the extracted files can then be deleted, or the extracted files can be written of a CD.

2. Installation from Floppy disks

You will require seven formatted floppy disks (1.44MB) in order to perform the floppy disk installation

STEP 1: Using a program like The Aladdin Expander extract the contents of the mhcc01.zip file onto the first of seven floppy disks. Label it MHCC4Viewer Disk 1.
STEP 2: Extract the file mhcc02.zip to a second floppy disk; labeling it MHCC4Viewer Disk 2. Extract the file mhcc03.zip to a third floppy disk ; labeling it MHCC4Viewer Disk 3. Continue in this sequence until all the files are extracted onto labeled floppy disks.
STEP 3: Insert MHCC4Viewer Disk 1 into your floppy disk drive. Locate the floppy drive with the Windows Explorer (or File Manager). Run the setup.exe program by "double clicking" on it. Follow the instructions and the installation should go smoothly.
STEP 4: Pass the disks onto a friend!

You will have to click the right mouse button and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" to download the files.
